Join us for the opening performance of the 2022 Woodstock Playhouse Theatre Festival Season as we celebrate the 84th season of the Woodstock Playhouse; originally established in 1938 by Robert Elwyn, a Broadway/Film professional member of one of Woodstock's oldest families.

Based on the 1984 film 'Footloose', starring locally well-known personality Kevin Bacon and the exciting cast and crew that started it all, we're excited to open the season with this passionate story of when Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, where he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score, augmented with dynamic new songs, 'Footloose' celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind. Come be inspired by the accomplished dancing and the moving songs which include 'I Need a Hero', 'Mama Says', 'I Can't Stand Still', 'Somebody's Eyes', 'Heaven Help Me', and so much more, including the title song 'Footloose' made famous by Kenny Loggins.

This performance is brought to the stage of the iconic Woodstock Playhouse featuring the Woodstock Playhouse Summer Theatre Cast 2022, a regional company of rising-professional performers widely acclaimed for some of the finest performances in our NY & Tri-State region.
